Norman Reedus promises: 'Daryl Dixon' sequel surpasses 'The Walking Dead' by far

The new “Daryl Dixon” season starts in September – and according to Norman Reedus, it should be better than anything we’ve seen so far in “The Walking Dead” universe. The third season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is already confirmed, but first we can look forward to the new episodes of season 2 from September 29, 2024 – and fans shouldn’t miss out on them. Because if leading actor Norman Reedus is to be believed, the sequel will give us the best episode in the history of the zombie franchise.

As part of the Saturn Awards ceremony, “The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus took the opportunity to promote the upcoming season of “Daryl Dixon” (via YouTube):

“I’ve just watched the season 2 finale. I would say it’s the best hour of ‘The Walking Dead‘ ever. Of everything. Without a doubt.”

When Reedus is reminded of what big words this is, he adds:

“That’s right. And everyone who’s seen it confirms that. It’s fantastic. But we also have a good foundation.”

His opinion doesn’t seem to have changed, because as he told the Radio Times (via X), the season 2 finale surpasses everything we’ve seen from the “TWD” world so far:

“Season 2 is phenomenal. Season 1 was fun, season 2 is just mind-blowing. The finale of season 2, the last episode, is […] the best hour of ‘The Walking Dead’ ever. Ever, in every way. I’ve told the press that several times.”

Big promise: “Daryl Dixon” aims to outdo all “The Walking Dead” series

According to IMDb episode ratings, “Daryl Dixon” was actually much better received by audiences than the spin-offs “Tales of the Walking Dead”, “Fear the Walking Dead”, “World Beyond” and “Dead City”. However, the enthusiasm surrounding “The Ones Who Live” is likely to be hard to beat. After all, the Rick Grimes series scored up to 9.1 out of ten possible stars – the Daryl spin-off was able to score a maximum of 8.5 stars.

Furthermore, the main series should not be ignored: Out of a total of 177 episodes, a whopping 37 episodes have a better rating than the most popular “Daryl Dixon” episode; 20 of them are even above the magic threshold of 9. To outdo all these chapters of “The Walking Dead” story is like a more than ambitious goal – but is of course not impossible.

While title hero and audience favorite Daryl Dixon was the only familiar character from the zombie franchise in season 1, fans can look forward to a reunion with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) in season 2. As the trailer reveals, she has set off in search of her best friend and is already hot on his trail:

Reunion of Carol and Daryl only in the finale?

Since season 2 of “The Walking Dead” at the latest, Daryl and Carol have been considered the dream team in “The Walking Dead” universe – even though (or perhaps because) the iconic crossbowman did not appear in the underlying comics by Robert Kirkman. Their character dynamic is based on a friendship that is as deep as it gets in life. Although they are sometimes separated from each other for months at a time over the course of the series, the trust that unites them in spirit never fades. The esteem with which they treat each other is almost unique in the zombie franchise – and this is largely due to the fact that they are relentlessly honest with each other without losing empathy.

It is not yet known if and when Daryl and Carol will find each other in the spin-off. What is certain, however, is that Daryl will continue to devote himself to the fight against Madame Genet (Anne Charrier) and “Pouvoir Des Vivants” in France, while Carol will do everything in her power to track Daryl down. It is conceivable that the reunion will be withheld from us until the season 2 finale – which would be a good reason to call the episode in question the “best hour” in “The Walking Dead” history. However, we won’t know for sure until September 2024, when “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol” starts.
